Four named customers
The BBC's first located formal approach says four named customers had contacted the programme about bookings, payments, closure and refunds. Their allegations are source material, not proof of the underlying propositions.
BBC RIP OFF BRITAIN · SOURCE PROVENANCE · UPDATED 22 AUGUST 2026
This page reconstructs the January 2019 Sun Park item without assuming that Construcciones Acosta Matos, an Acosta Matos-related person, Lanzarote Information, Camel Travel, New Horizons or another private actor caused, commissioned or coordinated the BBC programme.
PROVENANCE
The BBC's first located formal approach says four named customers had contacted the programme about bookings, payments, closure and refunds. Their allegations are source material, not proof of the underlying propositions.
Philip Jeffery put the complaints to Sun Park, received detailed rebuttal and later said the programme intended to proceed because customers were confused and disappointed while still inviting a broadcast response.
The preserved BBC episode page describes a sunshine resort turning away guests who had booked and paid. In 2025 the BBC said the programme also carried Sun Park's explanation that activities had ceased because of alleged illegal activities by third parties.
A preserved former-customer-group capture records an Ian Griffiths seeking access. A group member described him as a journalist investigating Sun Park; Phil Lee said he had been in contact with him and recommended that he be admitted. Separate later public credits identify an Ian Griffiths as a Rip Off Britain producer. The present record does not prove that the October 2018 account was the same person acting for the BBC. The identity, employer and assignment bridge remains open.
No primary email, payment, production note, instruction, contributor agreement, call record or witness statement has been located showing that CAM, JDAM, Hotel New Trend, Canarian Hospitality or MYND initiated, commissioned, supplied, funded or directed the BBC programme.
DATED RECONSTRUCTION
The repository documents a material change in physical and operational control. Project Sun Rock disputes its legality. This page does not convert that documented event into a final judicial finding of an unlawful takeover.
New Horizons capture: journalist named Ian Griffiths seeks access; Phil Lee says he has been in contact and favours admission. Professional identity/capacity remains to be proved.
BBC identifies four named customers who had contacted it and asks Sun Park for detailed response.
Sun Park's legal notice disputes the customer narrative, raises source-provenance issues and places ownership, operation, possession and litigation distinctions before BBC Legal and production. This proves notice, not the truth of every allegation in the letter.
The BBC cites customer confusion/disappointment, invites further response and confirms the intended 22 January broadcast.
Rip Off Britain: Holidays, Series 7, Episode 12, 45 minutes. The complete Sun Park segment remains an archive-production request.
BBC materials appear in Hamlins, AlasLegal, KMT and later recovery packages. This is documented use by the affected side; it does not prove adverse-party reliance.
Lanzarote Information's adverse predecessor material remained public while Camel Travel promoted MYND Yaiza, identified it as the former Sunpark and invited quotation requests. New Horizons later shared Camel's MYND post. BBC causation of that later contrast is not proved.
BENEFIT / DETRIMENT
| Claimed effect | Current evidence | Status | Potential beneficiary / missing bridge |
|---|---|---|---|
| National adverse exposure | BBC episode synopsis and production correspondence. | Documented publication | No private beneficiary assigned merely from broadcast. |
| Customer confusion / reduced confidence | BBC's own stated reason for proceeding + nature of the item. | Reasonable inference; unquantified | Need cancellations, customer messages, analytics and booking data. |
| Predecessor goodwill impairment | National programme plus later persistent adverse online material. | Reasonable inference; unquantified | A successor can indirectly benefit from displaced predecessor goodwill, but causation/value requires expert and transaction evidence. |
| Neutralisation of Sun Park's defence | BBC did carry at least a concise Sun Park counter-position. | Open proportionality question | Full broadcast needed to judge weighting and context; total exclusion cannot be claimed. |
| CAM/successor litigation or possession support | No primary adverse-party pleading, exhibit list or hearing record located. | Open evidence gap | Need the actual court or private-use record before claiming use. |
| Successor commercial normalisation | Later MYND operation and positive Camel promotion documented. | Successor promotion documented; BBC contribution unproved | Need evidence that the BBC narrative materially influenced acceptance, investment or sales. |
| Camel/YHB/Co-op booking or commission benefit | MYND quotation route and later group repost documented. | Capability documented; actual benefit unproved | Need CRM, quote, booking, supplier and commission records. |
| CAM as direct/immediate/complete beneficiary | No precise causal bridge located. | Not established | Requires specific use, reliance, instruction, decision or measurable value evidence. |
BBC AFTER NOTICE
Series producer Lizz Martin said the programme had been made under BBC Editorial Guidelines, said it had reflected Sun Park's position at the time, and said there were no plans to revisit the story.
The BBC acknowledged further material and said it would be discussed internally. This is an acknowledgement, not acceptance of the allegations.
The BBC said the programme was no longer available to view and was out of time for an editorial complaint, directing the matter to the Complaints Framework.
Editorial complaints were directed to the Complaints Framework and legal complaints to BBC Legal. No complete institutional merits response to the later documentary reconstruction has been located.
LANZAROTE INFORMATION · CAMEL TRAVEL · NEW HORIZONS
The existing record proves a former commercial relationship between Lanzarote Information and Sun Park; a later adverse Sun Park publication; favourable Camel Travel promotion of the refurbished same property as MYND Yaiza; and third-party sharing of that MYND post within New Horizons. The October 2018 New Horizons capture also creates a significant BBC-provenance lead through Phil Lee and a journalist named Ian Griffiths.
