One continuous story: what we built, what I am working to preserve and recover, and what we intend to build next.
My work has crossed property, hospitality, technology and law. Through Sun Park Living, Patricia and I tried to build a place around independence, community and the possibility of a fulfilling new chapter of life. Through Por Derecho / Project Sun Rock, I now apply the same long-term instinct to evidence, continuity, recovery and future projects.
The thread connecting those activities is stewardship: understand what exists, preserve what matters, correct the record when necessary, and build something durable from it.
Personal roots
I grew up in a kibbutz in Israel; Patricia grew up in Tenerife. Community, shared responsibility and independence were therefore not abstract ideas when we began thinking about Sun Park Living.
My family history also includes the Holocaust and the work of rebuilding life across later generations. That history has made memory, continuity and the preservation of an accurate record deeply personal to me. It is context for my motivation; it is not evidence of the merits of any legal allegation or proceeding described on this site.
I have become increasingly conscious that each generation inherits stories, documents, institutions and responsibilities from people who are no longer here to explain or protect them themselves. I think of preserving that continuity as a form of stewardship.
Our purpose
From 2011, and visibly by 2012, Sun Park Living developed in Playa Blanca around a simple proposition: people should have room to be themselves, form friendships, discover new interests and contribute something of their own.
Participation was intended as an invitation rather than an obligation. Belonging and independence had to sit comfortably together. Patricia was a co-creator of the guest and community experience, while residents, volunteers and the wider team continually shaped the place in practice.
Community life
Sun Park Living and Summers Villages combined accommodation, flexible stays, direct reservations, specialist distribution, activities, community programming and technology. Contemporary material described a 220-apartment proposition and approximately 50 employees at the outset.
The Sun Rockers helped shape everyday life through meals, guest-organised activities, gardening, film nights, volunteering and regular social events. The point was not activity for its own sake; it was to create ordinary opportunities for people to learn, contribute, be recognised and enjoy one another’s company.
The Ethos
Adam J. Jackson visited Sun Park in January 2016 and later wrote to Patricia that the book he was preparing had been inspired by what he experienced there. That connection became The Ethos: Because life is better together. The book is a literary treatment, not evidence about the legal matters on this site; for me, its significance is that the community’s underlying idea was visible to somebody outside it.
Law & technology
For more than three decades I have worked across property, technology-enabled businesses and hospitality, particularly between the United Kingdom and Spain. In 1994, while studying law, I was a student member of the Society for Computers and Law. Richard Susskind’s work on the future of law and Nicholas Negroponte’s ideas about the digital world helped shape my interest in how knowledge and technology can change what an individual or organisation is able to do.
That interest now extends to evidence systems: how to make a complex history searchable, traceable, correctable and independently reviewable.
Present and future
After the loss of material control at Sun Park on 7 June 2018, a substantial part of my work turned toward preserving the record and pursuing recovery and accountability. Important history should not depend on memory alone.
Por Derecho / Project Sun Rock uses primary documents, structured archives, source control and AI-assisted analysis to connect people, events, assets and proceedings. The method keeps documented fact separate from allegation, inference, procedural status and unresolved proof. AI accelerates research and organisation; it does not create facts or replace source verification and human judgment.
The work is not only retrospective. Aweswell Limited and Sun Rock are also pursuing new Canary Islands hospitality opportunities. Montaña Roja in Playa Blanca is an active current opportunity, but remains subject to transaction, title, planning, technical, funding and closing gates. Recovery value is not treated as present cash, guaranteed collateral or a substitute for project-specific underwriting.
Current hospitality opportunities are discussed selectively with relevant counterparties through separate public-facing project and capital materials.
Connect
I welcome serious conversations about hospitality, community, entrepreneurship, evidence, legal technology, access to justice, institutional accountability and new projects. The useful starting point is not agreement; it is what can be understood, tested or built together.
Identity, injury and public interest
Website authorship, injured-party standing and reporting-person/whistleblower activity have different legal foundations and consequences. None substitutes for or automatically proves the others.
Gil Marer is the sponsor and responsible author of this website. Separately, Gil and the people, companies and economic interests represented in the record state that they are directly and indirectly injured parties and continue to suffer economic and patrimonial harm. That position and the quantification of each loss remain subject to evidence, contradiction and determination by the competent authority.
Gil states that he has acted and continues to act as a reporting person/whistleblower since 2020–2021. He invokes the protection that may apply, communication by communication, under Spain's Law 2/2023, Directive (EU) 2019/1937 and, where the required territorial, personal and material nexus exists, Germany's HinSchG and the UK's Public Interest Disclosure Act 1998, operating principally through Part IVA of the Employment Rights Act 1996. No blanket immunity or automatic official recognition is claimed.
Documented operating history
The strongest documented operating chapter is Sun Park / Sun Park Living / Summers Villages in Playa Blanca from 2011 until the loss of material control on 7 June 2018.
Gil led owner-level strategy, business development, funding and counterparty relationships, commercial structuring and UK–Spain coordination. The operating model connected the asset with a differentiated customer proposition, direct demand, technology, specialist distribution and community.
Current architecture
Past, recovery and future are connected analytically, but the responsible legal entities, assets, cash flows and liabilities remain distinct.
The existing UK HoldCo and Sponsor. It can contribute only assets, shares, contractual rights, commitments or proceeds it legally owns and is permitted to use.
The commercial group/platform identity through which strategy, origination, operating know-how and institutional relationships are coordinated. It is not presented here as a separately incorporated parent company.
New hotels are intended to sit in project-specific vehicles with their own underwriting, financing, accounts, security and governance. No automatic cross-collateralisation is implied.
The evidence-led recovery, continuity and public-interest record. It is not itself the borrower, asset owner, investment fund, law firm or registered foundation.
Evidence and transaction boundaries
The purpose of this page is to explain the connection between the past, the present work and the future strategy without turning personal motivation into proof or disputed rights into present value.
The programme seeks the best evidence-supported outcome for each proper claimant and asset layer. Recovery is not presented as guaranteed, current cash or automatically available collateral, and different rights must not be collapsed or counted twice.
Pipeline opportunities remain subject to diligence, authority, contract, financing and closing. Historical relationships are not described as current unless re-verified; prospective transactions are not presented as completed achievements.
